Helton, Design Journal 4

Incremental progress, which I'm frankly thrilled with at this point in the semester! I'm continuing to build out lessons in EdApp, and have finally completed all of their tutorial items, so the stupid rocket ship is not blinking at me any more. Victory.

The current lesson I'm working on is about Creative Commons licenses, which lines up with the second module of the course. It's one I really enjoy, because being able to read these licenses is foundational to being able to reshare OER. Teachers are great at using resources, but their first impulse is not to share modified versions of what they have made, so this is an important lesson to build their self-efficacy about knowing what is and isn't allowed under particular licenses.

I found the peer feedback on my progress video very helpful, and I'm taking it to heart. I had been uncertain on how I was going to implement the animation portion, and I think the suggestion to use a pre-made like powtoons is a good one. I'm still not entirely convinced that animation is worth the time investment required in terms of what the learner gets out of it, so I'm going to build out the lessons first and add animations as I have time towards the end of the course.

Thinking about UDL, I do need to make some time to do some narration. That's possible within EdApp, but I want to make sure it is skippable. Personally, I read material much faster than I can listen to it, and I don't want to frustrate or slow learners down.
