What Happens When Thermal Energy is Added on to an Ice Cube?

I am trying to explain the molecules in an ice cube during thermal energy to my grandfather. It is actually very interesting and I think pretty fun to learn about. When ice is a solid, the molecules are together as one and the have like a pattern. As it starts to melt things start to change. While thermal energy is effecting the ice cube, the molecules begin to lose their pattern. When it’s now al liquid they are still together but, they are not in parttern just like the solid was. When there is more thermal energy added on to what is called now liquid, it’s starts to become a gas. The molecules of a gas is everywhere because it loses its shape.
